Here's another list of basic terms used when playing texas holdem:
- Fish - an inexperienced or bad poker player
- Calling station - refers to the player who almost always calls but rarely raises a bet
- Nut - refers to the best or highest possible hand given the board
- Raise - a form of bet that is higher than the previous one
- Check-raise - a strategy in which the player checks first then raises when another player bets
- Draw - a weak hand; needs more cards in order to be a strong hand
- Pocket Pair - a pair in the hole cards
- Fifth street - another term for river; the fifth community card
- Burn card - the card that is discarded by the dealer before dealing
- Tight - refers to a player who plays only the best hands; does not play many hands
- Loose - a player who plays a lot of hands; opposite of tight
- Blind - forced bet that is placed before the cards are dealt
